Music on a Cart

In this video, I give guidelines and strategies for successful sub plans I've used (with and without technology) and include multiple examples within the four categories of lesson types discussed.

I was honored to be asked by NAfME to participate in a webinar panel entitled, "Social Distancing, Sanitation, and Carts, Oh My! Suggestions and Strategies for Teaching General Music on a Cart." The featured panelists each share their top tips, strategies, and encouragement followed by a Q&A session at the end of the webinar.

I share how I set up my cart for daily lessons, the structure of my activities in an average music period for my lower and upper elementary music classes, what I do when there's no elevator access in my 3-story tall schools, and MORE!

This video has ALL THE THINGS! I share what happened when my district switched to remote teaching in the spring of 2020, the resources we used that I liked (and didn't like), what my teaching might look like for the 2020-21 school year, how I'll incorporate instruments into my music lessons, and then end with some encouraging words to round it all out!

I demonstrate two name games I like to use at the start of the school year. One for kindergarten through 2nd grades, the other for 3rd and 4th grades. Downloads of these activities are in the Bookshelf.

Two non-locomotor movement activities that incorporate fun isolated body movements.

*COVID-19 modifications: Can't sing in class? Utilize a glockenspiel or xylophone (in place of the voice or slide whistle) for the vocal glides or share a video of yourself doing the music activity for students to watch in the classroom or learn from at home.
